Platter

Platter

Now spinning.

Streaming gave us every song ever made, and took away the thing that turned. Platter brings it back. Whatever's playing, its cover pressed onto a record that spins on your desk, once every eight and a half seconds.

  1. The panel

A 4″ Guition ESP32-S3 touch panel, 86.5 mm square. It pushes onto four hooks and clicks in. No tools, nothing glued.

  2. Leaning back 25°

So the record faces you sitting at the desk, with the panel's weight over the foot.

  3. The cable disappears

A 90° USB-C adapter hides in the plinth. The cable runs down under the spine and out through an S-shaped groove in the back.

  4. Two hours on a printer

    86.9 × 90 × 104 mm, 77 g of PLA. 0.2 mm layers, two walls, 15% infill on a Bambu P1S.

Spotify

A Raspberry Pi holds your account through Spotify's Web API and is the board's relay, so taps, skips and seeks go straight back to Spotify. It only resumes on the device you last played on, so a tap can't start music in somebody else's room. Premium needed.

No Pi? A Mac's Spotify app works too, read through AppleScript, no keys. Display only.

Sonos

No account, no keys. The Pi finds your speakers on the network and follows a room. Swipe down for the menu: pick a group, set its volume. Regroup in the Sonos app and it still knows which room you meant.

The volume slider is square-law, because nobody plays a speaker at 70.

Anything, really

Platter is a Resident app on an open ESP32-S3 panel. Push it a different Lua app and it's a clock, a weather flame, a usage meter. Try one on Bench before it touches the board.
